We recently designed a 2,300-square-foot building to house one of the world’s most powerful MRI machines at the Cleveland Clinic. Last week, the 7-Tesla MRI was installed in the new building adjacent to the Cleveland Clinic’s Mellen Center.
The MRI machine, which is equipped with an 80,000-pound magnet, is so powerful it required a special design for its foundation to isolate any vibration which would mar its high definition images. A crane was used to lower the magnet through an opening in the ceiling.
This powerful piece of equipment allows neuroscience researchers to see clearer images of the brain, sometimes down to the cellular level.
