Aultman Center for Education

Hasenstab Architects provided architectural and interior design services for a new 46,000 square foot Center for Education at Aultman Hospital in Canton, Ohio. The three-story clinical building supports several functions. The first floor is comprised of family practice medical offices. The second floor houses nursing classrooms for the Aultman College of Nursing and Health Sciences. Instructional areas include a simulation lab, skills labs and a medical reference library. The third floor of the building consists of shell space for future expansion.

Students of the Aultman College of Nursing and Health Sciences can earn a two-year Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) pre-licensure from the new Aultman Center for Education. The collaboration between the Center for Education and Aultman Hospital provides students with an urban college campus atmosphere and state-of-the-art technology in health care. The enhanced space enabled the college to expand from 150 students to 225 students.

Features include:

  • First-floor medical practice clinics
  • 10 classrooms that seat 30 students each
  • Nursing simulation lab
  • 8-bed Nursing skills lab
  • Medical reference library
  • Shell space for future development

The skills lab allows student to digitally record themselves interacting with a simulated manikin that has realistic sound effects and the ability to receive an IV.  The simulation laboratory is equipped with computer-controlled adult and pediatric patient manikins that realistically respond to the care they receive.

In 2008, Hasenstab Architects provided conceptual design plans for a new training room on the third floor. This training room was constructed in 2012 and replaced the existing shell space originally left for future expansion.
