Betty Jane Community Learning Center
Akron Public Schools
Betty Jane Elementary School & Community Learning Center is a new, 61,489 square foot facility serving Akron Public Schools. The project included complete site renovation, landscaping and interior design services for this 450 student school which houses kindergarten through fifth grade.
Functioning as a school during the day and community center in the evening, spaces are available for public use and continuing education. Large group activity spaces include a gymnasium and dining hall, which can also be used for testing, community meetings and awards ceremonies.
Each classroom includes overhead digital projectors, marker boards and cabinet storage. Students learn in a light-filled physical environment that is comfortably heated and cooled with state-of-the-art mechanical systems. A stage is attached to the dining hall and is equipped with performance quality sound and lighting systems. Special spaces include art and music classrooms and a media center/Learning Resource Center.
Programmed space for Betty Jane CLC includes 18 classrooms, four kindergarten classrooms, four special education classrooms, a gym, dining room, commercial kitchen, stage, media center, art classroom and administrative spaces. The gym and dining spaces are separated by a movable partition which offers the opportunity for one large space or smaller, defined areas.
