Considine Professional Building Addition
Akron Children's Hospital
Akron Children’s Hospital has embarked on the next phase of the Hospital Master Plan. To address expansion of the sub-specialty practices in Akron and to consolidate functions from leased spaces within the area, an addition to the Considine Professional Building is under construction.
The proposed seven story Considine Addition, approximately 230,000 SF in building gross square feet in size, occupies the 2.25 acre site on the southeast corner of the hospital campus. A 6,800 SF elevated bridge will connect the Considine Building with the main hospital and Kay Jewelers Pavilion.
Approximately 94,500 SF of clinical area and 47,700 SF of office area are planned within the Considine Addition. Shelled and inaccessible spaces of approximately 53,700 SF will allow for expansion of future business objectives. Accommodations for a future elevated bridge are incorporated in the design.
The project includes various amenities to serve patients and families including an outpatient pharmacy, outpatient lab, a grab and go cafe, lactation rooms, and larger patient/family restrooms.
This project also introduces a convenient, entrance-based check-in and registration process rather than in individual department registration locations.
Building on the success of the Kay Jewelers Pavilion project, LEAN concepts were incorporated into the design process. An Integrated Project Delivery contract is in place for the Considine Addition.
Planned departments include:
- Adolescent Health
- Behavioral Health
- Infectious Disease
- Locust Pediatrics
- Outpatient Laboratory
- Outpatient Pharmacy
- Pediatric Surgery
- Sports Rehabilitation
