Cooper Cancer Center
Hasenstab Architects provided architectural and engineering services for the 77,000-square foot Jean and Milton Cooper Cancer Center at Summa Health’s Akron City Hospital campus.
The Cooper Cancer Center includes medical office space, research facilities, infusion therapy space, administrative/support space, time-share offices and shelled radiation therapy space. In addition to cancer treatment, the facility also offers services such as support groups, pain management, access to social workers, cancer-care coordinators and psychological counseling.
The design of the Cooper Cancer Center consolidated patient services previously located in different parts of the hospital. The new facility streamlines patient flow, enhances patient care and reduces demands made upon professional staff. To improve the overall level of comfort for patients and their families, the Cancer Center provides larger treatment spaces with increased privacy.
In line with a patient-focused approach, the infusion therapy area offers private treatment spaces separated by modular dividers to give patients and family as much privacy as they desire. Each infusion bay faces a large expanse of windows to give patients a soothing view of the outdoors during the sometimes lengthy treatment process.
