Akron Public Schools
Hasenstab Architects provided full architectural services for a new 56,000 square foot, 400 student elementary school and community learning center. The project included complete site renovation, landscaping, and interior design services.
The Akron Public Schools’ Community Learning Centers functions as a school during the day and a community center in the evening. Spaces such as a gymnasium, dining room, community kitchen, and art and media classrooms are valuable for public use and continuing education.
Technology incorporated into the classrooms includes digital projectors, amplification systems and computer network services. Mechanical and electrical designs include full air conditioning and an addressable fire alarm system with the infrastructure to enhance facility-wide safety.
Programmed space includes 13 elementary classrooms, one Pre-K classroom, three kindergarten classrooms, four special education classrooms, music and art classrooms, gymnasium, dining room, kitchen, media center and administrative spaces. New site work includes hard and soft surface play areas, and large pieces of sandstone from the existing site were used to frame various on-site sidewalks and a unique concrete amphitheater seating area.
Leggett offers a multicultural environment near The University of Akron and The University Park Alliance, and University students complete field experience and service hours at Leggett.
