This project encompasses the renovation of an existing Post-Anesthesia Care Unit into a new Central Sterile Processing Department (CSPD) for Akron Children’s Hospital. This new CSPD will combine two sterile processing departments within the hospital into a single, centralized location.

This renovation is a key component of a larger surgery renovation project, which also includes the addition of a satellite pharmacy, expansion of the outpatient surgery center, and construction of new operating rooms. Enabling projects were completed prior to this renovation to create the necessary space and support infrastructure.

Coordination with SPD staff was a key component of the design process. The design team reviewed different layouts of spaces and equipment to determine which arrangement would create the best flow for the new department. A current and future state assessment helped the team validate the goals of the project. The team also engaged in collaborative sessions with equipment vendors and SPD staff to ensure compliance with operational and infection control standards.
