This project encompassed the replacement of aging CT and MRI equipment in New Castle, PA. The Hasenstab team was engaged to update the imaging suite in accordance with current facility design guidelines.

The primary challenge for the MRI replacement was securing adequate space within the active imaging department to construct a new MRI suite without disrupting ongoing operations. The team was engaged during the feasibility study and developed multiple design options to ensure the most functionally viable approach. Ultimately, a courtyard infill was selected to provide the necessary space.

The project was executed in two phases to minimize impact to ongoing operations. Phase One involved the courtyard infill and renovation of the imaging office area to accommodate the new MRI suite. Phase Two included demolition and conversion of the former MRI suite into administrative offices.

This effort was highly collaborative. The project team worked extensively to resolve structural, plumbing, and acoustical challenges as they arose. With a concurrent infrastructure upgrade underway, the team coordinated closely with the parallel project team to ensure seamless integration of design and scheduling. In addition, the team collaborated directly with equipment, RF shielding, and lighting manufacturers to incorporate all required specifications into the final construction documents.

The MRI project was managed alongside a CT replacement in adjacent space. Early in the project, the team worked closely with clinical staff to optimize workflow, developing an efficient layout that maximized space and accommodated all necessary equipment. Coordination with engineers and the equipment vendor was also key for ensuring all infrastructure met current technical requirements. The result is an upgraded imaging suite that was successfully delivered through a coordinated approach.
