STEM High School at Robinson CLC

Akron Public Schools

In 2024, the National Inventors Hall of Fame (NIHF) STEM High School relocated to Robinson Community Learning Center. NIHF STEM High School was established in 2014, and for the first ten years of its existence, rented space in a former high school building. The school’s aging facility was no longer serving the growing student population.

Hasenstab Architects worked with Akron Public Schools to determine a new location that would best fit the needs of the school. Several options were considered, but the district settled on Robinson Community Learning Center, an Akron Public Schools elementary building that became available after a redistricting project was completed earlier that year. The former elementary school would need to be renovated on an accelerated timeline to accommodate high school students.

The project’s fast-paced schedule was challenging, but the A/E team worked to complete construction documents in just three weeks.

The renovated school features updated classrooms and STEM learning spaces, including cyber security and esports labs, as well as a makerspace/innovation lab. New science labs for chemistry, biology, biotech, and environmental science were also included as part of the scope.
