Summa Health
Wound Care Suite
Hasenstab Architects provided professional design services for a new wound care suite at Summa Health Wadsworth-Rittman Medical Center. The space features two hyperbaric chambers along with a new bulk oxygen system to supply them.
After evaluating several potential locations based on constructability, accessibility, and phasing, the design team ultimately decided that the best location for the new wound care suite would be in an underutilized portion of an existing medical office building.
The design team made a number of updates to achieve the Business Ambulatory Occupancy status required to operate the facility. A one-hour fire barrier, 45-minute rated doors, and fire dampers were added to the existing walls, doors, and ductwork to achieve the necessary one-hour fire resistance rating. Additionally, upgrades to the HVAC system were made to meet ASHRAE standards.
Bulk oxygen for the hyperbaric chambers in the wound care suite is supplied by the adjacent hospital’s existing oxygen system, which received a full upgrade as part of the project.
