Dispatch Center

The relocation and expansion of the Portage County Dispatch Center created a larger, updated space for the county to coordinate emergency service communications.  The new Dispatch Center, located within the Portage County Justice Center, provides space for up to eight dispatchers, doubling the capacity of the previous space.

The design team coordinated closely with the selected furniture vendor and with dispatch staff to create a new workspace tailored to their unique needs. Each dispatch station has two independently adjustable worksurfaces, task lighting, as well as personal heating and cooling controls. The large cabinets at the end of each workstation provide an easily accessible space for IT-related work, so dispatchers can continue to respond to calls as needed.

Active calls and units dispatched can be easily viewed from anywhere in the room on large monitors between each workstation. Each desk contains plexiglass behind the monitors and a light pole that light up in three different colors to indicate from across the room to other dispatchers and the supervisor who is ready, on the phone, or on the radio. The renovated Dispatch Center provides a functional and flexible workspace for Portage County emergency dispatchers.
